Winter in Texas isn’t a snowy affair, but that doesn’t mean it’s not chilly enough to call your wedding a winter wedding!
With cold, frosty nights and cozy comfortable days, winter in Texas really does set the scene for a winter wedding. All you have to do is take the lead when it comes to the wedding décor plan.
A little hard work and a bit of imagination, and you’ll have everything you want for a perfect winter wonderland wedding.
Not Overflowing with Ideas? Don’t Worry!
As a Dallas wedding photographer with years of experience in the field, I have all the information you need to help you plan a gorgeous wintry celebration!
– Choose an Indoor/Outdoor Venue
A magical time this may be, but it can still be chilly enough to be uncomfortable. For the sake of your guests’ comfort, choose a venue that has both indoor and outdoor spaces.
Pick one as the primary location—for instance, the ceremony for the outdoors and the reception for the indoors.
– Set the Tone with Smaller Details
Don’t go with the usually stark white theme if you’re not in the mood. Instead, choose soft, cooler tones for your overall palette and use little things like invitation cards, place cards, and flowers.
Add accents like snow-encrusted twigs for the centerpiece, shrubbery and ivy, perhaps a chandelier with snow or faux ice accents.
As a final touch, add antique lace to give the pristine, delicate design more texture.
– Keep it Comfy with the Menu
Your winter wedding menu needs to comfort the body and the soul, so add special seasonal hot dishes to it.
Starters like different styles of bruschetta or a hearty tomato soup with a crème fraîche dressing will set the tone perfectly.
For desserts, keep it classy with some fruit tarts or a chocolate dessert. Let your guests tuck in!
– Add Some Light
Lanterns, candles, votives—there’s so much you can do to add a touch of romance to your winter wedding.
Keep the furnishings classy with wood tables and chairs with a white runner in the middle.
Then set the scene with some lanterns and centerpieces with hanging crystals to reflect the light to throw off some snowflake-style lighting.
– Keep it Chic
For the ladies, keep your dresses long and flowy, with full sleeves of crisp satin. Add accessories like a faux fur cape and decorate your neck and ears with diamonds or zircon to complete the ice queen look.
For men, try to make your tuxedo as monochrome as possible. While red cummerbunds are fine and dandy, they may look a little strange in this essentially neutral theme.
– Talk to Your Photographer
Finally, if you have any perishable elements in your wedding—like flowers and such—or if you have your outdoor venue on a deadline, tell your photographer beforehand so they can document the scene.
You don’t want to end up with no photos at all because the venue was booked back-to-back, with your hard work and designs being taken down as soon as the ceremony ends.
